MODULE 4: MIXED REALITY
MODULE 4: MIXED REALITY
In this module you will discover Mixed Reality, a technology that blends real and virtual environments into a single interactive space. You will explore its main features, strengths and challenges, as well as applications in tourism training, where MR creates highly immersive and contextualized learning experiences that combine the best of AR and VR.
ABOUT THIS TRAINING
Mixed Reality (MR) brings together the best of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality by blending real and digital elements in the same space. This module introduces you to the concept of MR, how it combines virtual and physical environments, and its role in creating truly immersive and interactive learning experiences.
To guide your learning, TourXpeRience has organized the content into clear units:
Unit 1: Introduction to Mixed Reality
Understand what MR is, how it merges VR and AR, and watch a short video showing examples of MR in action in daily life and training contexts.
Unit 2: Main features
Explore the technical features of MR such as spatial mapping, real-time interaction, multisensory integration, and the sense of co-existence between real and virtual objects.
Unit 3: Strengths and weaknesses
Analyze the benefits of MR, including high interactivity and contextualized learning, as well as its limitations such as technical complexity, high costs and the need for trained instructors. Case examples will illustrate both effective and less effective uses.
Unit 4: Areas of application
Discover how MR is used in education, tourism, cultural heritage and creative industries, with practical demonstrations to understand its potential.
Unit 5: MR in VET - Tourism
See how MR can transform vocational training in tourism with examples such as interactive city tours, eco-tourism navigation, reconstructions of cultural sites, hospitality simulations and role-play with virtual clients. A dedicated activity will help you reflect on the benefits and challenges of MR in tourism education.
Unit 6: Tools and devices
Get to know the devices and platforms that make MR possible, including HoloLens, Magic Leap, tablets, mobile apps and content creation software, along with examples of MR tools in VET and tourism training.
By the end of this module, you will be able to explain the role of MR in VET, evaluate its strengths and weaknesses, and identify opportunities to apply MR in tourism education.
Are you ready to experience how Mixed Reality combines the real and the virtual to redefine learning in the tourism sector?
